Raven House Project Day 2

Lots to do today! Yesterday, with the help of my husband, I was able to get the layout for the shirt figured out. You can see a picture of the rough layout to the right. I think it is going to look really great. I chose the font Batik Regular for the quote. I like the faded look that it has. My husband liked the large raven. It is a bit bold. It kind of reminds me of American Eagle shirts. My plan is to dye the shirt a medium to dark blue, use a discharge paste to screen on the quote and the swirls, and then redye the shirt a light blue and print the raven in black. I have never tried using the discharge paste and then redying so I'm going to do a little experimenting today. I have a lot to do actually. I need to do at least one dye bath, coat some screens to prep for exposure, and I need to make my image transparencies. I guess it is time to get to work.

Raven House Project

Wow, it looks like it has been 2 years since my first and only post. I'm going to give this blog another go and see if I can't do a whole lot better than one post every two years. :-)

Today I'm starting work on an exiting new project for Raven House! Raven House is an unofficial no kill shelter that has given a home to many abandoned animals. My friend Tracy at http://strawberryhedgehog.com/ is organizing a bake sale fundraiser on behalf of Raven House. The bake sale will by on July 10th from 11am to 4pm at Loveland Boutique 107 E. Baseline Rd., A-3, SE Mill and Baseline, Tempe. I am contributing some map bags to be auctioned off and she has also commissioned some t-shirts that she would like to sell. Tracy came up with a wonderful design of a raven in flight with some swirlys around it that look like wind currants. My project for today is to figure out how large the image should be and how I want it placed on the shirt. I have printed off some paper copies of the image in various sizes and I'm just going to play around with it a little and see what I like. I guess I had better get to it!

Welcome to Nature Inspired, the blog for Jessiebell Designs! Nicole and I started Jessiebell Designs in October 2007. Nicole is a Photographer and I am a fiber artist, we thought it would be interesting and fun to work together and combine our talents.

Our first collaboration was our logo. The shape is a Fireweed flower. It comes from a photograph I took in Yellowstone. The content is a photograph Nicole took of a Palo Verde tree at the Desert Botanical Gardens in Phoenix, AZ. To us the Fireweed and the Palo Verde represent strength and resilience. After a devastating forest fire the Fireweed is often the first plant to return. It's bright pink flower is a sign of hope and rebirth against a stark black background. The Palo Verde lives in the harsh Sonoran desert. The Palo Verde gets its name from its green bark. In the summers harsh heat it loses it's leaves but continues to turn sunlight into food through the chlorophyll in it's skin. Nature is beautiful and fascinating. Our art is inspired by nature. Our hope is to share our interest in nature with you though our art.

We decided to start this blog as a way of sharing our ideas, methods and inspiration. We welcome your comments and questions and hope you enjoy reading our blog.
